Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore menopausal symptom, attitudes toward menopause, and depression in the middle aged women.
Methods: This study was a descriptive correlational design. The subjects were 72 women who attended a health promotion program in the public health center. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire. The data were analyzed by SPSS 18.0 using descriptive statistics, and hierarchical regression analysis.
Results: The results of this study were as follows: The menopausal symptom of the subjects was in a moderate level, attitudes toward menopause were negative, and the level of depression was low. The statistically significant difference in depression according to sexual life was shown (t=5.00, p=.029). There were positive correlation between depression and menopausal symptom (r=.47, p£¼.001), and negative relationship between menopausal symptom and attitudes toward menopause (r=-.23, p=.049). The sexual life and menopausal symptom of the middle aged women had statistically significant influences on depression.
Conclusion: The health promotion program which contains healthy sexual life and depression should be developed for the middle aged women in the community.
